The Tarot of Maker @ Medialab Prado!! OPEN CALL for Collaborators!

The Tarot of maker is one of the 8 projects that have been selected to be developed during Interactivos?’15: Material Cultures in the Digital Age, that will be carried out from December 2 to 16, 2015.

The workshop is complete with a series of conferences and meetings.

The Tarot of Maker is open to collaborators of almost any field. In particular we welcome makers, philosophers, illustrators, graphic designers, ecologists, sociologists, psychologists, coders, poets, translators and in general all the people interested in debating and creating a manifesto of good practice about digital fabrication and the maker movement and then generate a deck of Tarot cards.

The proposal will be mainly developed intellectually through the collaboration of all the people interested in the topic.

Then according to the skills of collaborators, we can produce different results:

a) the prototype of a physical deck, preferably made of recycled materials (i.e.: wood sheets, cutted and engraved with symbols).

b) a wiki or a git of the project by which to develop the project in the future.

A third of the time will be devoted to the creation of the manifesto, another third to the graphic design of the symbols and the choice of the materials.

The remaining time to the creation of a prototype of the deck of cards.

THE TAROT OF MAKER PROJECT

OPEN CALL FOR COLLABORATORS

Free registration. Deadline: November 30, 2015.

Hack&Art Day 6th Edition!

Open call for artists, creators, engineers, and thinkers of all disciplines to work on their projects,  make new professional contact, design new prototypes, creating networks, testing inventions or learning new technologies related to digital art.

Creators time: 11am to 6pm with community dinner.
Cost: Free
Open day for everyone: from 6pm to 8pm

If you are interested in participate in the Hackathon, please write explaining a little more about your work and the people you want to help you. Or if you don’t have any project, you can tell us about what you can offer to the day.

All together will try to reply back and coordinate to collaborate. You are invited to participate in the event discussion. 😉

16:00 -18: 00 // Friendly presentation of the ACT project (Accessible Culture & Training).

Presentation of the ACT and brainstorming on the problem of accessibility in performing arts, especially for groups with functional diversity. ESDi, Design School and  UAB University will participate. The session is open to  all those who are interested in the topic, experts or not.

Sense Shifting

Sense Shifting

Exhibition/Presentation: Interactive Media Participatory Performance @ FoAM (2014) Brussels, Belgium.

Summary of the work

Sense Shifting was an art experiment that explored the possibilities of non-verbal communication mediated by an interactive device: an Emotiorama. The final artwork was an intimate experience in which the participants, in pairs, have had the opportunity to interact with both the machine and each other, playing in a continuous balance in which states of attention and relaxed contemplation alternate. It was a fusion of disciplines to celebrate empathy and try to understand what in the end, connects us.

Sense Shifting was created thanks to the support of the European Initiative ICT & ART Connect (Sigma Orionis). The experiment was one of the seventeen selected projects and the only one from Southern Europe. This initiative allowed practitioners in technology and the Arts to meet, collaborate and discuss the future of such collaborations.

The art experiment

Sense Shifting is an interdisciplinary interactive art experiment inspired by research on affective computing. It started as a process of exploration between participatory art, natural interface design and perception. People communicate their emotions in order to be understood. Emotions lead physiological changes, emotional stimulus can be an event, a gesture or a particular tone of voice. Assuming that empathy is the process of understanding and responding to the inferred feelings and emotions of others, then show emotions publicly making visible the bio-signals that people produce during their interactions can transform the experience of such social situation.

The Emotiorama

The experiment led to the creation of an Emotiorama: an interactive machine that mediates the interaction between two people by making their emotional state visible. It has the physical appearance of a little zen garden. The sand surface captures the hands’ movement generating a real-time synthesis of a sound of warm summer wind. While the black stones work as biosensor leads that record variations in skin conductance in both participants and directly related to their arousal state. Then the machine transforms such bio-data into sound and light which can be perceived and interpreted by both participants. The Emotiorama, through the use of biosensors makes explicit a biological information, otherwise invisible, transforming it into a sound and visual feedback.

An artistic experiment with the aim of:

Questioning affective computing technologies by offering an experience in which the public can experience what it means to be able to perceive the biosignals related to the change of emotions.

Investigating non-conventional channels for non-verbal communication by sensory augmentation, which permit to display in real-time emotions-related biosignals through lights and sound.

Designing a speculative prototype of an advanced interface in which technology disappears, presenting itself as natural and organic.

Impact of the artwork

The projects  have been displayed during the exhibition curated by FET-ART partner Black Cube Collective (Edinburg) and hosted by FoAM, an art centre in Brussels. An event at European Commission building concluded FET-ART. The event was opened by Anne Glover who emphasised the strong links of science, technology and the Arts. The project was presented during the session, together with the other artists participating in the ART & ICT Connect, to convince the Commission to invest more in the collaboration between art, science and new technologies.

THÆTA at Sesi-SP massive digital facade in São Paulo!

digital media facade interactive performance

In June 2014 StratoFyzika was invited to perform an adapted version of THÆTA for a special stage accross the 26,241 thousand clusters of LED lamps of Sesi-SP massive facade in São Paulo .
A live feed of the stage image was mixed in live with adapted content for the LED wall.

Smart Gardening Lab

During one week, M:A:D Interaction will carry out a citizen science activity that intends to apply basic and low cost technology to the urban garden of L’Estruch (Sabadell) in the form of an open laboratory on smart gardening.

The lab will define the ideas and objectives to be reached (like setting a webcam to have a real-time streaming from the garden), also the irrigation system will be update and be made smart thanks to an Arduino YUN board.

The Smart Gardening Lab is born from the collaboration between MediaEstruch, the Metropolitan and M:A:D Interaction. The lab will be open to anyone who wants to participate, especially technologists, horticulturists or interested in new opportunities to make community and strengthen citizen collaboration.

Sense Shifting working in progress!

Sense shifting is an interdisciplinary art research between participatory art, interactive media, performing arts and cognitive sciences aimed at creating “emotioramas”: interactive artifacts for sensory augmentation, which permit to display information in real-time that conveys emotions-related bio-data through visual and auditory sensory stimuli.

THÆTA – Shadow of Aikia

interactive media dance performance with sensors

theta2THÆTA is the third performance of StratoFyzika’s Shadows Trilogy. With new collaborations in sound and interactivity (sensors building, coding), the concept still steeped in the subconscious realms and dealing with the ego: the dark and light shadow aspects of self (as in the first two parts of the trilogy) but also on the edge of the conscious, waking self; visions on the edge of sleep, whispy light shadows, multi-dimensional geometric objects, sudden sound as if from the halls of a mind in a dream state.
This liminal zone is a state referred to as Hypnogogia.

THÆTA embodies this borderland state.

All merge onto the stage, interactively; body dynamics, auditory sensations and visuals function as the culmination of parts into one constellation in live performance.
